Growing Chefs! Going Local!

Day 1 | Going Local!

Morning Caffeine: Saltspring Coffee and one of my fav. beans, Sumatra. Great for espresso, Vietnamese press, French press.

Day 1 | Going Local!

Breakfast: Whistler’s Purebreads’ Sour Cherry Pecan Buckwheat Bread. Rustic and dense. Topped with Chef Phil’s Natural Peanut Butter from Pemberton, BC. the combo of flavours is excellent, and filling too. Thanks to my friends, Oana and Matt, for giving me the peanut butter as a birthday treat!! It came in handy for the weeks food challenge :)

Day 1 | Going Local!

Lunch: Purebreads’ Rustic Italian bread topped with Little Qualicum Cheesework’s fresh soft cheese, local vine ripened tomatoes, sea salt, fresh cracked black pepper, and a drizzle of olive oil.

Day 1 | Going Local!

Dinner: since I had beef in my freezer already, this one is Canadian free range beef tenderloin from Choices Market, I suspect that if it’s not from BC, then neighbouring Alberta. Steak was grilled on the barbeque au naturel, then a dash of sea salt and fresh cracked black pepper, and a small dallop of my favourite chilli sauce/oil. Served with sauteed fresh local spinach and garlic. A good dose of iron :)

For my evening snack, a mixed handful of frozen berries I’ve amassed in my freezer, really meant for my near future experiments with making gelato ;)

Here’s a shot of the fresh blackberries that were purchased on the weekend, before I froze them.
